Urban Tactics – temporary interventions + long term planning

The Urban Tactics research project looks at the relationship between temporary architecture projects and long term planning. It takes four very different case studies of temporary use to find out what works and why and to try to draw general conclusions about the social, economic and political contexts conducive to these projects’ success. It mainly with temporary interventions in public space (or publicly accessible space) although some of the conclusions could equally apply to the temporary use of vacant buildings.

Durch den Call sollen Alternativen geschaffen werden, die sich inhaltlich mit dem Status quo, der Umkehrung, der Neuerfindung und dem Hervorheben existierender Infrastrukturen, Kommunikationsstrategien und Formen kulturellen Konsums, die mit der Tourismusindustrie assoziiert werden, auseinandersetzen und darauf reagieren.

Bei der „Archäologie des Spektakels“ geht es um die Ausgrabung, die Analyse und die Reaktion auf die Touristikindustrie in Stuttgart, die Erfahrung der Stadt als Tourist und die Beziehungen die zwischen einem Besucher und der Stadt entstehen. Diese Untersuchung  wird den kuratorischen Rahmen für die diesjährige Saison von Arttours setzen.”

“Architecture for the Underserved” is an ethnographic film on design-build architecture programs around the United States that was documented by Kenton Card during 8 months of participant observation fieldwork on the Rural Studio of Auburn University in Alabama, the Alley Flat Initiative of University of Texas, Studio 804 of the University of Kansas and others (for an undergraduate sociology thesis at Marlboro College, Vermont).
